___________

Institution/DG/Agency responsible at EU-level: European Innovation Council (Horizon Europe)

___________

Programme budget:

  • Open funding: EUR 70.9 million
  • Challenge driven funding: EUR 60.5 million

___________

Project budget:

  • Grants of up to EUR 2.5 million (can be more if properly justified) to validate and demonstrate technology in application relevant environment and develop market readiness

___________

Type of funding : Top-down (challenge driven) and bottom-up (open funding)

___________

Target participants: EIC Transition targets the following types of stakeholders:

  • Single applicants (SMEs, spin-offs, start-ups, research organisations, universities)
  • Small consortia (two to five partners)
  • Applications must build on results from eligible Pathfinder, Future Education and Training (FET), or ERC Proof of Concept projects

___________

Programme scope: EIC Transition funds innovation activities that go beyond the experimental proof of principle in laboratory to supports both:

  • The maturation and validation of your novel technology in the lab and in relevant application environments
  • The development of a business case and (business) model towards the innovation’s future commercialisation

___________

Participant criteria: The Work Programme allows for the participation of academic partners without an SME or industrial partner. However, the evaluation will assess the “necessary high-quality expertise, capabilities and motivation to move decisively towards innovation, create a unique commercial value from the emerging technology and develop an attractive business and investment proposition”. It is therefore encouraged that companies participate, including SMEs/start-ups, and which may include companies that did not take part in the previous consortia that originated the results.

___________

Project duration: TBD

___________

Average time from submission to project kick-off: TBD

___________

R&D stage:  Funds innovation activities that go beyond the experimental proof of principle in laboratory. It supports both the maturation and validation of your novel technology in the lab and in relevant application environments (by making use of prototyping, formulation, models, user testing or other validation tests) as well as the development of a business case and business model towards the innovation’s future commercialisation.

___________

Intellectual property:  Transition projects are subject to provisions to ensure open access to scientific publications and to promote the uptake of research results. EIC projects are encouraged to support cross-fertilisation and exploitation across other EIC projects. This means that Transition projects could be asked to share information about results across relevant EIC projects and parties.
